Week five of the summer holiday has been super busy, but I think I managed to find the balance this week with keeping the boys entertained as well as keeping on top of the Mrs Mummypenny workload.
Free Children’s Activities in John Lewis
Saturday saw Dylan go off to Cambridge for the day for a reward day with his football team. He had extra training, then met the under 18 team and watched them play. Then he went over to Cambridge stadium to meet the first team and see them play. A great experience. Josh and hubby also went over to Cambridge and watched the game too. This left Jack and I at home and we went to John Lewis in Welwyn whom were offering loads of free childrens activities to celebrate the bank holiday. There was play dough, foil art, balloon modelling, lots of lego and a treasure hunt. We had a great day and got involved with everything. We did the treasure hunt together and Jack got two lego sets as the treasure. And all of this was free!
Swagbucks
I have spent some time this week exploring an online money making site called Swagbucks. I have opened up an account and I am going to build up my bucks to save up for lots of vouchers to help with Christmas, I am aiming for £100 by December. I have written about it here explaining the ways of making money, or you can just sign up using this link.
Badminton
Since our holiday Dylan has a new sporting obsession badminton. We booked a court at out local council sports centre and played a game. Now it was £9 for an hour which felt like quite a lot of money so I must investigate a cheaper way of doing this, maybe joining the gym which only cost £26 per month? Even if we played badminton three times a month we would then be saving money. We have also invested in badminton rackets and some shuttlecocks from Amazon using some vouchers I have stored up.
Softplay
There was a rainy day during the week and I gave in to the many request and took the boys to soft play. We went to 360 play as its a big one and I knew they would be kept happy for a few hours. I definitely got our £30 worth and we stayed there for 3 hours. I got two blog posts written whilst sat there trying to ignore the screaming.
Day at the beach
I had a huge craving for the beach and the sea by the end of week and we headed off to Frinton-on-sea for the day. Its a pretty long drive of 1 hour 40 mins but it’s so worth it. It is a beautiful clean beach with breakers, sand and loads of shells. And the promenade is lined with the prettiest of beach huts. We had a few hours on the beach, went for a swim and had a generally loved English beach time. We were treated to a display by the Red Arrows who were performing at nearby Clacton. Our only expense was the essential ice-creams which we got from the high street just before leaving.
Getting back into Free Exercise
I have not done very much exercise all summer, apart from the huge amount of activity on holiday 😉 So I headed out for the ultimate free exercise on Sunday morning for a four mile run. My pace has slowed right down in the 5 weeks since my last run which was disappointing but I am glad to be back on it again.

H&M clothes shopping
Do you know about the discounts you get using the H&M app when shopping? I had a little look in store on Saturday after Jack and my visit to John Lewis. Their blouses are my favourite and are perfect for work meetings and trips into London with clients. I bought 3 blouses for £40 and saved £3 using my points on the app.
