How to sell a house
Our house is for sale. Did you know? I’m sure you did as I bang on about it a lot! I wanted to share my advice on how to sell a house.
It has been on the market since the beginning of July and I have learnt a lot about staging your house ready for the perfect viewing.
Soft Frontage
Not a euphemism I promise! The front of our house is very bricks and windows so we added a hanging basket to soften the area by the door. The driveways were also tidy and weed less (and cat poo-less).
A clutter free entrance
Again, not a euphemism! We have a hallway as you walk in the front door with coats and shoes, the shoes are organised neatly in pairs on the shoe rack. The coats have been decluttered so there are only 2 coats per person! There were around 25 coats hanging up.
Kitchen/Dining Room
This area is the heart of our home. Ensure there is no washing in the sink. And that all surfaces are spotless. Again, all clutter is hidden. If you must use the oven to hide things so be it. Candles are neatly arranged, three of them, in the middle of the breakfast bar. It’s good to have things displayed in threes for interior design.
We have bar stools, ensure they are all the same height and underneath the breakfast bar. We pull out our dining table to show it in use and put a plant or flowers in the middle of the table.
Living Room
All toys have been moved into the garage. Cushions are arranged I order on the sofa to soften. Pictures on all the walls to show homeliness and to allow the buyers to imagine they are living in the house. A great place to source artwork at a fabulous price is from Posterlounge.
Garden
Ensure its tidy and clutter free. Any broken toys are removed and hedges are cut back and neat. It a nice idea to place garden furniture again to create a lifestyle.
Upstairs
Similar advice to downstairs, clutter free is the key. All beds are made and pulled smooth. Pillows are plumped. Artwork on the walls makes the rooms look more welcoming and lived in. I have this beautiful piece of art in my office that inspires and motivates me. I love abstract art and purple so I filtered the Posterlounge website using these filters and chose the most perfect picture.
Bathrooms
Stating the obvious here but they need to be spotlessly clean. I like to place strategic aspirational toiletries around. Molton brown/white stuff type products. A bright towel makes a nice pop of colour. Tie the colour theme up with the toiletries. Remove the bath toys from the bath.
Are they any other killer bits of advice you would recommend for selling a house?
