The Christmas Tag – what I love most about Christmas
This type of post is a new one to me..the Christmas tag. It’s a chain of posts written by lots of bloggers and we get tagged by each other. I was tagged by my fellow money blogger Cass from Frugal Family in her what she loves most about Christmas post. So here is what I love the most about Christmas
Before I start…I want to be honest. Christmas is really not my favourite time of the year. I am a much happier person in the middle of July when I can bask in the hot sun and benefit from the long days of sunlight and warmth.
So, Christmas is sometimes meh..but there are some things that I enjoy about it. And of course, some things that I must enjoy with the children.
What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
Easy choice this one, its Elf. We have watched it already, mid-November I think! It still makes me laugh and it’s such a great story. We love it as a family film.
Have You Ever Had a White Christmas?
Never! I grew up in Penzance where it is milder than the rest of the country and we never got snow at Christmas for the first 18 years of my life. Then I moved up country. I have lived in Middlesex, Kent, Essex and now Hertfordshire and we have NEVER had a white Christmas. Boo.
Where Do You Usually Spend Your Holiday?
Christmas for the past few years has been at home here in Knebworth. Christmas day is normally with our best Knebworth friends the Jordan’s. Spending Christmas day with your friends is such a great idea. There are never any argument as we have chosen to be together. We eat a ton, drink a ton and play games. The eat a bit more. It’s a great day.
What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?
It’s got to be Wham and Last Christmas. I have loved George Michael most of my life and was so sad when he died last Christmas. This song will be laced with a bit of sadness this year. But it’s such a great song.
I do love a Christmas hymn and love a sing song at the children’s carol service. My favourites being O little Town of Bethlehem and Hark the Herald Angles sing.
Can You Name All of Santa’s Reindeer?
I highly doubt it! Rudolph, Dancer, Pranzer, Blitzen..give up. Storm?? Now I am randomly guessing!
What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward to This Year?
I love to give the boys a stocking filled with little things to see as soon as they wake up. It will have things like chocolates, a satsuma, pants and smellies inside. When they come downstairs there will be Santa’s footsteps (made with flour for the snow) in the hallway.
Christmas morning will be a chilled-out affair with some nice Christmas breakfast, maybe croissants or bagels with some fizz. We will relocate to the Jordan’s for the mid-afternoon Christmas feast.
What Is the Best Christmas Present You Ever Received?
My best ever gift probably dates back to the age of maybe seven when I got the big Sindy house. Do you remember the one on 4 levels? Bottom floor was kitchen and bathroom, 1st floor was living room, 2nd floor was bedroom and there was a roof terrace. I managed to fill that Cindy house with all the furniture and oh how I love it. I would spend hours and hours playing with my dolls and house of my dreams!
Most Memorable Christmas Memory?
My Christmas memories of my parents must be mentioned here. I would get up extremely early, at 4am or 5am to rush downstairs. I would try to open my presents as slowly as possible, sometimes taking two hours to stretch it out. Growing up in a household as the only child was different, my siblings are 18 and 20 years older than me so had moved out long before.
Lunch would normally be cooked by my mum with my sister and her children joining us. That Christmas dinner is probably my best memory of the nicest food, turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and mushy brussels!
What Made You Realise the Truth About Santa?
Um he’s a real person who still exists today, what are you referring to?
What Makes the Holidays Special for You?
Long walks in the country side, time off from work, red wine, amazing food. (totally found an incredible 12 bottle case on Amazon for just £79.99)
