5 Frugal Things post 67 – Sky TV savings and a hair cut
I’ve had a busy but sickness filled week this week. My cough is the most annoying thing ever. Its not stopping me do much, except sleep as that is when the coughing fits start. I am feeling a bit tired and sorry for myself. Poor Dylan had it bad as well and has had two days off school and five days off football, itching to get back now!
Wednesday saw a very exciting day in London. I met my boss from EE days for lunch to talk his new business and life. Then met my buddy Emma for lunch and cake at Elan Cafe in Knightsbridge. Full to the brim of insta stars taking selfies. It was hilarious. We went hot footed it (read as jumped in cab) and made our way to Farringdon for an event with Investec Click & Invest where we talked the psychology of risk, such a great event. More to come on that soon.
Shopping in London
I arrived for lunch a bit early so I jumped off the tube one stop early and took a stroll down Regent street, via H&M. I have been so good and not bought any clothes for ages but was feeling the need for some bright colour in my wardrobe. I love H&M, its really well priced and bang on trend. I got a stripey red and navy breton top for £9. I got a very cool orange blouse with fit frilly sleeves for £13 and a pair of gold pumps for £18. I was really happy with three pieces for £40.
Getting rid of Sky TV (Nearly)
I have working on a project this week with a broadband provider, that post will be ready soon. So I have been looking into the detail of what we pay with Sky. Shockingly £48 of our monthly bill goes on just Sky TV, that includes a variety package, sky sports and sky movies. A conversation with Sky means I have been able to take that £48 down to £20 per month. Unfortunately I am in contract until November for a TV package of some sort so we have to pay £20 per month until then. We will also be switching our broadband as well, so total monthly savings will be £34.50.
Opening My Stocks and Shares ISA
I have opened up my Wealthify Stocks and Shares ISA this week. They have given me an exclusive £50 cashback offer which is paid to me after 6 months of paying in £250 to open the ISA then £50 per month every month. This offer is open to 100 of my Mrs Mummypenny reader so why not check out the offer yourself. I am really excited about having an stocks and shares ISA up and running and saving up for big long term goals. I will be sharing the progress of this investment as well so you can all see what returns I am making.
Hair Cut time
Its expensive getting my hair cut and coloured so I don,t have it done very often. Normally once every six months and then I do my own root touch ups with an at home colour. I had my hair done last weekend by my friend Stacey who has just set up on her own, shes been cutting my hair for maybe eight years now? She has converted her garage and its looking amazing. This also means that she now charges less for her haircuts as she is not working in a salon. So I did actually save £20 on a normal cut and colour. And my hair looks so much better, shorter, a better colour.

Back to the gym
I have missed out on personal training sessions for a while due to the snow and being ill so it felt good to get back to it this week. We focussed on weights this week, we took this video to show a little circuit I repeated a few times. If you live near Stevenage why not check out No Bull Fitness. Monthly membership is just £35 per month. A great low price for a monthly membership.

I think it’s great that your friend has started up her own business and that you’re supporting her as a customer… and getting a great haircut too!
Such a good idea to run her own business, shes already making more money than she did when in high st salon and calls the shots. Win Win. And for me and my great haircut at a cheaper price!!
Home haircuts are now gaining popularity, and this is not strange, because during the pandemic, many salons remain closed, or people are simply afraid to go to the salon. But now you can just learn everything at home, with blogs like https://wisebarber.com/ you can easily find tools for home haircuts, and a haircut that is right for you. Main desire.
