5 frugal things post 50 – Walking and Roast Chicken
This week started with meeting a good friend for lunch. I met with Heather whom I used to work with at EE. We both quit to explore the self employed work. Heather qualified at a hypnotherapist. We meet up regularly for lucnh or coffee and a chat to catch up on each others business and share tips on what has worked well for us business wise and whats worked not so well. Heather was the one who successfully helped me to lose weight, three stone all together. And two years on the weight is still off. Hypnotherapy works!
We talked about the onset of the winter months and being kind to ourselves. When you run your own business to tend to always be switched on, always thinking of new ideas, it can be highly pressured. We talked about taking a break and just being kind to ourselves. When you feel the need to take a break and take things easier do it. Your mental health and business will be grateful!
I did a few frugal things this week, here they are.
Walking in London
I headed into London on Tuesday for an Aldi Christmas Food showcase at the Good Housekeeping Institute. I arrived at the venue very early after not checking the invite so spent an hour in a nearby Starbucks with an Americano. The event was amazing with lots of food and drink to try. From beef to turkey to nougat to mince pies. With a splash of champagne and slow gin thrown in. Here is a full write up from an Aldi Christmas event I wrote in July.
After leaving the event I had lots of time to get back to Kings Cross so I walked from Soho to Kings Cross saving myself a whole £2.90 and walking an extra 6000 steps:-)
Saved £6 per month on my contact lenses
I have been meaning to look at the cost of my contact lenses for ages. This week I have and I have found a company where I can go from £18 per month to £12 per month. £6 per month saving and nearly £100 over the course of a year!
A New Beautiful Handbag
I got this new handbag from NV London Calcutta which come in salmon pink with a beautiful tassle. Its a perfect size that fits my wallet, keys and phone in it. It costs £55, but I do have a special saving for you. You can get 10% off everything on the website by entering the code MUMMYPENNY10.
More eBay Sales
Ten items were sold last weekend. I have 6 more items listed to end this Sunday. I am going to try really hard to keep the eBay sales going and sell at least 5 things every week. Hopefully this should make a nice chunk of money to help pay for Christmas. I know we have at least 100 things in this house to sell!
Roast Chicken feeds family for two days
On Friday night I roasted an Aldi ‘roast in a bag’ chicken. We love these chickens as the roasting in a bag always makes them juicy and moist. We ate our yummy roast dinner on Friday night and have plenty of chicken left today to make fajitas. Not bad for a chicken that cost less than £4.
I’m linking up with this Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Fabulously Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky.
